MUHIMA DISTRICT HOSPITAL BACKGROUND AND DESCRIPTION

Muhima Hospital is a public hospital located in Nyarugenge District in City of Kigali. The hospital started to operate since 2001 as an extension of the Muhima Health Center which was constructed in 1988. It was built under financing of the World Bank through the project “Santé Population” and assigned to the Ministry of Health in July 2001.

In the context of the decentralization of the activities of the Ministry of Health, Muhima Hospital was given to the City of Kigali and then becoming the Hospital of Nyarugenge District on 22^nd April 2002.

Muhima hospital provide primarily a maternal-child care with 203 beds and an average occupancy rate of 68.6% (HMIS, June 2018)

Muhima hospital oversees 10 functional health centers and one clinic at the prison in Kigali. It currently serves a population of 318,581 persons (HMIS 2018). It is a referral Hospital for 4 health centers namely; Muhima, Rwampara, COR UNUM, and  Kanyinya).

The scope of services of Muhima hospital is the following:

• OUT PATIENTS SERVICES:  OPD Gyneco-obstetric, OPD Pediatric,  General OPD for adults, NCDS, Stomatology, Mental health, ARV & TB services, family planning, Physiotherapy, Isange One Stop Centre and Ophtalmology.
• INPATIENTS DEPARTMENT: Gyneco-obstetric, Neonatology, Pediatrics, Nutrition
• CLINICAL SUPPORT SERVICES: Laboratory, Imaging, , Social and, Laundry and linen services, sterilization, Mortuary, pharmacy, Environmental services
• ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT SERVICE which composed by the following staff : Director General, Administrative assistant, Director of Finance and administration, Clinical director, Director of nursing, Internal auditor, Education and research officer,Quality improvement officer, Chief Accountant, Accountants,  Recovery Officer, Principal cashiers, Cashiers, Human resource management officer, Procurement officer, Asset management, Public relation Officer, Customer care, M&E, ICT, Archive, Maintenance, Statistic, Drivers.
